643 Project Space is pleased to announce an exhibition of work by artist Austin Finley.  Originally from San Diego, California, Austin Finley has found a second home in Ventura County after attending school at CSU Channel Islands. After years of developing his style, he is ready to embark on the journey of being a gallery artist. Drawing inspiration from ancient sculptures and wall reliefs, Austin has developed his own style of using form and color. There is a stylized face that has become the foundation of his work, a vectorized form that is reminiscent of a tribal mask where the facial features are very defined. This is his first solo gallery exhibition. "Exploring in Color: Scratching the Surface of Possibility" is a walk in a direction where color and form collide. With my pattern of repeating faces, I am learning how to bend color and create depth. By placing a light source in the painting, there is a focal point in where painting essentially begins. It starts bright and bold, then fades as the pattern builds out. With each layer, the color dims or gets lighter depending on how you look at it. There is some mirroring being implemented, but there is also a looseness about the planning that helps create opportunity for diversity in form throughout the painting. A mash of faces creating a bigger picture, beautiful chaos. Moreover, it's an exercise in imagination, a challenge to progress an idea into another phase, and it has been very enjoyable.
